(including magnetic sound) also known as DOUBLE 8mm.

Originally known as Cine Kodak Eight, Standard 8mm is a spool of 16mm which passes through the camera twice. Each pass only exposes half the width of the film. The film is then split down the middle when processed.

Standard 8mm

(including magnetic sound) also known as SINGLE 8mm.

Super 8mm is a cartridge loading system. It gives 25% more image area than Standard 8mm.
Fuji-film of Japan produced a similar format called Single 8mm.

Super 8mm

Initially developed as a format to supply cinema films to the home viewer. 9.5mm has a single, central perforation between each frame.

Film stocks were panchromatic black-and-white, later a colour Kodachrome and in the 1950s Pathescope colour film.
